How to merge PDF files

  1. Step 01

    Add your PDFs

Drop two or more PDF files on the area above, or click it to browse. You can keep adding files.

  2. Step 02

    Put them in order

Drag a file by its handle, or use the arrow buttons, until the list matches the order you want the pages in.

  3. Step 03

    Press Merge PDFs

The pages of every file are copied, in order, into one new document.

  4. Step 04

    Download

Save merged.pdf to your device. Nothing was uploaded to get it.

What you get

  • Pages stay intact

Pages are copied with their text, fonts, images and vector graphics. Nothing is turned into a picture, so text stays sharp and searchable.

  • Reorder with drag and drop

Move files up and down until the order is right. Buttons do the same for keyboard and screen reader users.

  • Mix any kind of PDF

Scans, exports from Word, invoices and password protected files can go into the same merge.

  • Private and free

No account, no watermark and no upload. The files are merged on your own device.

Tips for a clean merged PDF

Check the page sizes. Every page keeps the size it had, so an A4 page next to a US Letter page stays as it is. If the document will be printed, convert pages of very different sizes first.

The merged file is called merged.pdf. Rename it after downloading it, since the name of the first source file is not used.

Pages and their content are kept, but the bookmarks of the original files and links that jump between pages may not survive the merge. If the document depends on them, check the result before sending it.

A merged file is roughly the size of its parts added together. If the result is too large for an email, run it through the Compress PDF tool.

Frequently asked questions

How do I merge PDF files into one?

Add the files with the drop area, drag them into the order you want, press Merge PDFs and download merged.pdf. The first file in the list supplies the first pages of the result.

Are my PDFs uploaded when I merge them?

No. The merge runs in your browser, in a background thread of the page. No file is sent to a server, which you can confirm in the Network tab of your browser's developer tools.

How many files can I merge at once?

There is no fixed number. The limit is the memory of your device, which matters more for the total size of the files than for how many there are. If the browser runs out of memory, the tool says so and you can merge in two steps.

Can I merge password protected PDFs?

Yes. Type the password of each protected file when the list asks for it. The merged PDF is saved without any password.

Does the merged PDF have a watermark or lose quality?

Neither. Pages are copied as they are, without being converted to images, so the quality of text and graphics does not change.

Can I change the order of the files after adding them?

Yes. Drag a file by the handle on its left, or press the up and down arrow buttons. You can also remove a file from the list without affecting the others.
