How to split a PDF
Step 01
Add your PDF
Drop one PDF on the area above, or click it to browse. The page count appears as soon as it is read.
Step 02
Choose how to split
Type page ranges such as 1-3, 5, 8-, or pick the number of pages each new file should have.
Step 03
Press Split PDF
Each new file gets only the pages it should contain. The original file is not changed.
Step 04
Download
A single result downloads as a PDF. Several results come as a ZIP, and each one can also be saved on its own.
What you get
Flexible page ranges
Type single pages, ranges and open ended ranges like 8-, which means page 8 until the last page.
One file or many
Make one PDF per range, or collect every selected page into a single new PDF in the order you typed them.
Cut every N pages
Slice a long document into equal parts, or into one file per page, with a single number.
Private and free
No account, no watermark and no upload. The pages are copied on your own device.
How page ranges work
Write pages separated by commas. A single number such as 3 means page 3 only. Two numbers joined by a dash, such as 2-5, mean pages 2 to 5. A number followed by a dash, such as 7-, means page 7 until the last page.
With one file per range, 1-3, 8, 10-12 creates three files: pages 1 to 3, page 8, and pages 10 to 12. With the option to save all selected pages in one PDF, the same text creates a single file with those seven pages.
The pages end up in the order you type them. Writing 5, 1-3 produces a file that starts with page 5 and continues with pages 1 to 3, which is a quick way to move a page to the front.
Splitting never removes anything from your original file. If a page you mistyped does not exist, the tool tells you instead of quietly producing a smaller file.
Frequently asked questions
How do I extract pages from a PDF?
Add the PDF, type the pages you want in the range box, tick the option to save all selected pages in one PDF, and press Split PDF. For example, 2, 4-6 gives one new PDF with pages 2, 4, 5 and 6.
How do I split a PDF into single pages?
Choose the option to split every N pages and set N to 1. You get one PDF per page, delivered together as a ZIP file.
Can I pick pages that are not next to each other?
Yes. List them separated by commas, such as 1, 4, 9-11, and save them as one PDF or as separate files.
Are my PDFs uploaded when I split them?
No. The file is read and split by your browser and never sent to a server. The Network tab of your developer tools will show no upload.
Why is a split file not much smaller than the original?
Images and fonts used by a page have to travel with it, so each new file carries its own copy of what its pages need. If you need a smaller file, run the result through the Compress PDF tool.
Can I split a password protected PDF?
Yes, if you know the password. Type it when asked. The new files are saved without the password.
