How net salary works in Spain
Employee social security is 6.5% of the gross pay (common contingencies 4.70%, unemployment 1.55%, training 0.10% and the equity mechanism 0.15%), up to the maximum base of €5,101 a month. The employer pays about 32% on top.
IRPF is charged on the gross pay minus the social security, €2,000 of work expenses and a reduction for low incomes, on a scale from 19% to 47% that combines the state and the regional parts, minus the tax on the personal minimum of €5,550. Communities with their own scale, the Basque Country and Navarre give different results.
Withholding on the payslip uses an algorithm of the tax agency and is settled in the yearly return, so the real figure depends on your personal and family situation. Most contracts pay 14 payments a year, or divide the two extra ones over twelve months with the same yearly total.

Why does my payslip show a different IRPF?
The employer applies a withholding rate computed from the data you gave in your tax form (family situation, children, disability) and the region. The calculator uses a single person with no dependants and the combined general scale, so the withholding and the yearly return can differ.
What is the maximum social security base?
€5,101 a month in 2026. Pay above it does not pay the ordinary contributions, but an extra solidarity contribution applies to the part above, which the calculator leaves out.
Is the result an official figure?
No. It is an estimate for planning. Your payslip is the real number: employers apply their own withholding tables, benefits and agreements, and the rules of Spain change from year to year.
Is my salary stored or sent anywhere?
No. The calculation happens in your browser and nothing you type is sent to a server.
