How net salary works in Italy

INPS contributions take 9.19% of the RAL, with 1% more on the part above €56,224, up to a ceiling of €122,295. The IRPEF is charged on the RAL minus those contributions: 23% up to €28,000, 33% up to €50,000 and 43% above, reduced by the deduction for employees.

Low and middle incomes get extra relief: a tax wedge bonus up to €20,000, an additional deduction between €20,000 and €40,000 and, below €15,000, the integration treatment. Regions and municipalities add their own surcharge, from about 1.2% to 3.3% and up to about 0.8%.

The thirteenth month is required by law and many national collective agreements add a fourteenth. The RAL already includes them, so the monthly net changes with the number of payments but the yearly net does not.

What is the TFR?

The trattamento di fine rapporto is a severance fund. Every year the employer sets aside about the gross pay divided by 13.5, less a small contribution to the guarantee fund, and revalues the balance. It is paid out when the contract ends for any reason. After 10 years on €30,000 the accrued amount is about €22,111, before the yearly revaluation.

Do I get a 13th and a 14th month?

The 13th month (tredicesima) is paid in December by law. The 14th (quattordicesima) comes from the national collective agreement of the sector, for example in commerce it is paid in June. The RAL you read in your contract already includes both.

Is there a minimum wage in Italy?

There is no statutory national minimum wage. Pay floors are set by the national collective agreements of each sector, and courts use them to apply the constitutional right to a fair wage.

How much notice does an Italian employer have to give?

The notice period is set by the collective agreement of the sector, by level and years of service, and usually runs from the 1st or the 16th of the month. Paid leave is at least 20 working days a year by law.

Is the result an official figure?

No. It is an estimate for planning. Your payslip is the real number: employers apply their own withholding tables, benefits and agreements, and the rules of Italy change from year to year.

Is my salary stored or sent anywhere?

No. The calculation happens in your browser and nothing you type is sent to a server.
